Newcastle to wear change kit in same colours as Saudi Arabia next season

Newcastle United will wear a change kit which shares the same colours as Saudi Arabia next season.

An image of the purported green and white kit leaked on Thursday. The Athletic can now confirm that the kit, designed by Castore, is understood to be genuine.

Green and white are the only colours on the Saudi flag.

The kit features a green crest, kit makers' badge and trim on a white shirt. This is remarkably similar to the kit worn by the Saudi national team.

Newcastle were taken over in a £305 million purchase by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in October last year. At the time, they told the Premier League there was no connection between the PIF and Saudi state.

Since the takeover, Newcastle have gone from being threatened with relegation to a comfortable place in mid-table. The appointment of Eddie Howe as manager and a £94 million January spend had a significant impact.

They are 14th going into Monday's game against Arsenal.
